Yokohama tires get SmatWay stamp of approval www.todaystrucking.com

Friday, January 16th, 2009

WASHINGTON -- The Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program has recognized Yokohama’s RY617 steer tire, 703ZL drive tire and RY 587MC2 trailer tire as products that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the EPA, the tires met the SmartWay program’s criteria for low rolling resistance.

Low rolling resistance helps tires run cooler, and reduces fuel consumption, thereby cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

"Yokohama is honored to be recognized by the EPA for our efforts to produce truck tires that help save fuel and protect the environment,” said John Cooney, Yokohama director of commercial sales. “Receiving approval into the SmartWay program reinforces our pledge to our commercial customers to produce the most technologically-advanced tires on the market.”

Launched in 2004, EPA SmartWay identifies products and services that reduce transportation-related emissions.
